Why Concrete for Georgetown Driveways
Concrete driveways remain the gold standard for Central Texas homes. They're durable, low-maintenance, and add significant curb appeal. A properly installed concrete driveway can last 30+ years — far outlasting asphalt in our hot climate.
Proper Thickness and Reinforcement
A standard residential driveway should be at least 4 inches thick, with 5-6 inches for heavier vehicles. The subgrade should be compacted to 95% density, and welded wire mesh or rebar should be used. In Georgetown's expansive clays, a thickened edge of 8-12 inches helps resist cracking.
Control Joints Are Essential
Concrete will crack — that's physics. But properly placed control joints control where those cracks occur. Joints should be spaced at intervals no greater than 2-3 times the slab thickness in feet. For a 4-inch driveway, that means joints every 8-12 feet.
Finish Options
The standard broom finish provides excellent slip resistance. Stamped concrete can mimic stone or brick. Exposed aggregate reveals natural stone for a textured surface. Each has different cost and maintenance implications.
Maintenance
Seal your driveway within the first year and re-seal every 2-3 years. Avoid deicing salts. Clean oil stains promptly. With basic care, your driveway will serve for decades.
