Much of Central Texas sits on expansive clay that swells and shrinks dramatically with moisture, which puts enormous stress on concrete. Cracking usually comes from inadequate sub-base preparation, missing or improper reinforcement, or control joints that are spaced wrong. We engineer every pour for our local soils — proper compacted base, the right reinforcement, and correctly placed expansion and control joints — so the concrete moves predictably instead of cracking randomly.

As a general rule, you can walk on new concrete after about 24–48 hours, and drive a passenger vehicle on a new driveway after roughly 7 days. Concrete reaches full strength at around 28 days. We'll give you the exact timeline for your specific pour based on the mix, the weather, and the application.

A standard residential driveway should be at least 4 inches thick. Where heavier vehicles, trailers, or RVs are parked, we recommend 5 to 6 inches. On Central Texas clay, the right thickness combined with proper reinforcement and a compacted base is what determines whether a driveway lasts decades or fails early.
